- How high up is the office?
- High. We stopped measuring at a point where the numbers stopped meaning much. The state has an address for it. The address is lower than the office.
- Thirty-three dollars buys what, up there?
- A name on a state form, an address somewhere under us and an agent a long way above both. The form does not ask about elevation. Nobody has, until now.
- Is anyone up there at the office?
- Yes. Us. We are up here most days. We are not sure which days. The office is roughly where the sky is, and we are roughly in it.
- What happens to mail that arrives down there?
- It arrives. It sits at the address. We see it from here, a small pale shape. Eventually someone goes down. Eventually is a real word up here. It just takes longer.
- What if a process server climbs up?
- Nobody has. It is a long way, and thirty-three dollars does not cover the boots. If someone stops at the address instead, the state's rule for an agent nobody can reach applies. It is on the Wyoming page, at ground level, where rules live.
- Why one state, from that height?
- From up here, one state fills the whole view. We have not looked over the edge of it. There might be others. It has not seemed urgent.

- What day is it up there?
- A day. Light came up, so it is one of them. We check the calendar sometimes and the number has usually moved. That seems to be how it works down there too.
- Do you ever come down?
- Sometimes. For the mail, when the pile is visible from here. The air gets thick lower down and things start to seem urgent. We go back up before that sets in.
- If something goes wrong down there, what comes back up to me?
- The fees from the three months before the trouble, which is $8.25. We would send it down. It would take a while to land.
- Can you let me drift off?
- At any time, for any reason or none, without notice and without refund. From up here you would not notice for a while. Neither would we. It is fine.
- Is thirty-three dollars high?
- It is the highest thirty-three dollars in the state. In dollars it sits in the middle somewhere. In altitude nobody comes close.
- Last thing?
- There is always a last thing. Then there is another one. We stopped keeping count at some altitude. Look up. It is still there.
